Thani Oruvan might be the last movie shot on film



Ramji, the cinematographer of Thani Oruvan, argues that shooting in a digital camera will not produce the same impact as film cameras.

Technological advancements have made film roles a thing of the past. Digital camera rules the industry these days. It seems that Thani Oruvan might be the last movie in the Tamil industry shot on film. The thriller has turned out to be a blockbuster, and the editing and cinematography play major roles in its success.

Though many filmmakers have embraced digital cameras, Ramji, the cinematographer of Thani Oruvan, is not ecstatic about abandoning the analog form of filmmaking. In an article published in Cinema Vikatan, a Tamil magazine, it is said that the cinematographer has expressed his distress over the changing scene.
Paruthiveeran, Ram, Aayirathil Oruvan are few of his films, which speak volumes about the artist's prowess over filming. It is notable that all his films have been shot only on film cameras. Ramji argues that shooting in a digital camera will not produce the same impact as film cameras.

"I think Thani Oruvan will be the last film that I have shot on film, Don't know whether films will come out in the future. In Hollywood they are still using films. When you shoot in digital you won't get the same impact as you get with film. They say film will come out after three years. Let's see," said the veteran cameraman to the magazine.
