India’s Arka Mediaworks has teamed with character entertainment company Graphic India to expand its blockbuster “Baahubali: The Beginning” across formats including comic books, novels, animation and gaming.

2015 release “Baahubali: The Beginning”, directed by S.S. Rajamouli, and produced by Arka’s Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni, grossed more than $88 million worldwide. A shorter international version cut by Vincent Tabaillon, (“Now You See Me”, “Taken 2”) is set to roll out across 30 international territories.

The transmedia expansion of “Baahubali” will begin with graphic novels. The first two are already in production, Graphic India co-founder Sharad Devarajan revealed. Also in the works is a larger, animated project, currently titled “Baahubali: The Lost Legends”.

“The market is dominated by Western and Japanese animation. We want to see if Indian animation can work across the world,” Devarajan told Variety. With the franchise’s gaming component Arka and Graphic India are also targeting India’s 900 million mobile users.

“’Baahubali’ is a big world, out of which the films are just a small part,” Rajamouli told Variety. “There are many more stories to be told. There are many areas in the film that were skimmed over that will now be explored. I’ll be overseeing everything.”

Rajamouli also revealed that filming of the sequel “Baahubali: The Conclusion” is under way and likely to conclude in August or September, ahead of a probable release in late 2016 or early 2017. The two films together have a production cost of $50 million.

Separately, Arka’s previously announced deal with tech giant AMD has lead to work getting under way on “a cutting edge virtual reality film with live action elements,” Yarlagadda said.   Graphic India is owned by U.S. comic book company, Liquid Comics, CA Media, the Asian investment arm of The Chernin Group, LLC, and NYC Media Group, Start Media.

Released on January 22, a war thriller - "Airlift" - has earned approximately Rs 54.70 crore at the box office in the country.

"The results speaks for the film. I am very happy with the response and it encourages me to make and be a part of such cinema. These kind of films did not had much prospects when it comes to numbers at the box office," Akshay told PTI.

"Looking at the numbers, I feel I should try more of these kind of films... Bring real life of people on reel life.

I am hopeful that after this film lot of producers, directors and actors will like to be part of this kind of cinema, that is less of songs and more of content," he said. Usually it's the masala entertainers that earn crores at the box office but the "Holiday" star is quite content with the commercial success of "Airlift".

"Raja (director Raja Krishna Menon) choreographed the war sequence very well ....cinematography of this film was wonderful," he added. Akshay hopes to get tax exemption for "Airlift".

"We have spoken to them (authorities concerned) and I hope things work out. It will be great if it happens," he added. Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, "Airlift" narrates the

Salman Khan at 50 is different from Salman at 40, even 45. He has mellowed. He is subdued. Fate has forced him to iron out the rough edges of his personality.
Earlier he was quite the enfant terrible. One would never know what he would say at the most inopportune moment. Right before a television interview to promote one of his recent films, Salman had heckled and taunted a leading film critic making the most objectionable remarks and observations about the journalist’s personal life.
The entire episode is on camera. But even if Salman knows this he wouldn’t care. He would do exactly what he wants. He typifies what the distinguished Harivansh Rai Bachchan wrote—Mann ka ho toh achcha na ho toh zyada achcha. If Salman gets what he wants, fine. If not even better.

When the honourable judge announced his acquittal in the hit-and-run case, Salman showed no emotion. He was prepared either way. He is not in the mood to celebrate his 50th birthday in a bigger way than usual just because he is lighter at heart after the court verdict.
Salman never changes. He is exactly the same during his reign of superstardom as he was when he went through a lean patch from 2004 to 2008, when almost all his films flopped. Salman was exactly the same then as he is now. What has changed is his penchant for losing his cool at the drop of a hat, for creating a scene, without caring about whom he embarrasses.

I was at the receiving end of his aggressive attention-seeking behaviour several years ago in the presence of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Kareena Kapoor. Salman drank non-stop the entire evening. He created a scene at a club where we stopped for dinner. Then he insisted on accompanying us back to my hotel where I just wanted to crawl under the sheets and never show my face again. But Salman insisted on coming up to my room. I had to finally ask him to leave. He pretended to leave, hid behind the exit door then returned with a grin.
Child or tormentor?
When I narrated this to Katrina Kaif, she was quiet and then she answered, “He was doing it to rattle you.”

That was Salman back on those days. He was his own man and if you insisted on getting uptight about the way he was, he would give you more of the same until you squirmed and recoiled. Now Salman has done away with the sharp edges of his personality. He is a lot mellower now than he was 10 years ago, and a lot more tolerant (oops, that forbidden word) of people who are not on the same wavelength as he is.
At 50, Salman has the world at his feet. His career is at its zenith. Anything he touches turns into gold. But is he happy? Doubtful. Salman has been extremely lucky with his family life and career, but singularly unfortunate in love. Almost every woman he loved he wanted to marry. But they had other plans.
It would appear as if Salman is a lonely man. He wants a wife and kids. But he isn’t sure if such a routine existence can be accommodated into his life. Salman loves children, but at 50, he is too much of child to take up the responsibilities of fatherhood.
