"Avatar" became the world's highest-grossing film ever made since it was released in 2009, and fans are anxiously waiting for updates on its sequel. Finally, news about the follow-up movie was released, and it comes straight from James Cameron himself.
During his interview with Entertainment Weekly, he told the website that "Avatar 2" is now in production. "I'm in the process of doing another pass through all three scripts right now," the award-winning director said. "Just refining. That's in parallel with the design process. The design process is very mature at this point. We've been designing for about a year and a half. All the characters, settings and creatures are all pretty much [set]," he added.
Fans have been waiting for six long years for "Avatar 2," but apparently, the long time that had passed did not lift the heavy burden on Cameron's shoulders, which is to surpass what the first "Avatar" movie had achieved. The movie also won several awards like the Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects at the 2010 Academy Awards.
According to the website, the director admitted that despite the success of the first "Avatar," creating "Avatar 2" was not easier. "Because you have to challenge yourself. Obviously, expectations are going to be very high on these films, especially on Avatar 2, to make sure it wasn't just some big fluke the first time. So we've got to deliver. I've created a nice rod for my own back, so they say," he shared.
The second movie is said to bring the Na'vi into the oceans, and the humans will be making their comeback at Pandora, according to "Avatar" Wikia. Fans can't wait to see the new arc of the story.
Tech Times said that Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) will be back for the next movie, which will premiere in December 2017. The website also said that "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4" will be following up in the next coming years, which will premiere in December 2018 and December 2019, respectively.
