Police alert major airports to nab Simbu

The cybercrime cell of Chennai police on Wednesday took their dogged pursuit of Tamil star Silambarasan alias Simbu to levels usually reserved for wanted criminals on the run, alerting all major airports in the country to detain the actor in connection with the controversial 'Beep song'. Officers of the cybercrime cell said they were apprehensive that the 32-year-old actor would attempt to leave the country due to the kerfuffle generated by the song which went viral on social media. Allegedly composed by music director Anirudh Ravichander, 25, critics say it has sexual innuendo and content offensive to women, which the composers beeped out in portions.
The reasons for the haste shown by investigating officers are two-fold: Neither Simbu nor Anirudh presented themselves to the Coimbatore or Chennai police despite summons issued to the pair; Anirudh, of Kolaveri fame, is currently in Canada, said sources, while Simbu is out of the city. The actor has filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Madras high court, seeking more time to present himself before the authorities, but the government has sought to oppose the bail.
Senior police officers now retired said the look-out notice to airports against Simbu may have been a logical step forward in the probe, because the actor failed to show up on police notices, but the rigorous nature of the investigation was surprising given the fact that the object of the probe is an actor and not a repeat criminal offender.
Simbu has been booked under IPC sections for obscenity and the IT Act for uploading offensive material.
"There is no immediate need for the arrest or custodial questioning of the actor in this case," former judge V J Arulraj said. "Everything is on the internet. The actor, moreover, has said he never released the album formally.
